SWLA Needs You: Pastor Banks of LWCC

Updated: Apr 21, 2021

Meet Bishop Joseph Banks of Living Word Christian Center. Like many homes after Hurricanes Laura and Delta, businesses and houses of worship incurred severe damage that will take months or years to repair, including Living Word Christian Center.

During Hurricane Laura, severe winds caused the majority of the damage, leaving the sanctuary with blown-out windows and a roof in critical condition. With the physical damage left by Laura and heavy rains brought by the later Hurricane Delta, water poured in quickly, marring the walls, floors, furniture, and equipment.

Even though the Living Word Christian Center has suffered, Bishop Banks and his congregation have been working hard to help the community. They have turned their youth center into a distribution site, feeding thousands daily. They have distributed everything from diapers to tarps, food, and even clothes. When asked how God has spoken to Bishop Banks during this difficult time he shared, "[o]ne is to stay in the arena of faith. Doesn't matter what it looks like, trust Him and lean not to your own understanding. Know that God will direct your path."

The road to recovery for Living Word Christian Center looks long, and it can't be done without the help of volunteers. Those in Southwest Louisiana are in great need of help to get them back on their feet.
